Bad Music? Bad Sound?

I was watching live at the Apollo the other night, and Dara O’Briain was talking about the entertainment business, but specifically video games. As he was talking about video games he also mentioned music, what he said struck me as strange and weird, so I want your opinion on this.

DaraHe talked about how he ocassionaly likes to listen to pop. I find this extremely funny. What he said afterwards was the strange part, he goes on to talk about how people he has met told him that he listens to the wrong music. he just laughs and says wrong music? How can sound be wrong?

As he said that I just sat there dumbstruck and thought of 1 person: Justin Bieber. How can someone I despise so badly for the very reason that his sound is bad, actually just not be capable of being bad, just cause his sound is.

Anyways i just wanted to ask: Is it possible for sound to be bad? personally I think that it can 🙂

  1. As it appears to be ‘true confession’ time, I’ll admit that Rap turns me completely off…not because it is bad poetry (lyrics, after all, are poetry; with music, they become a song or piece of music, etc.) What turns me off is personal: I don’t care for people who want to ‘punish me’ over some supposed injustice done them by someone who may have looked like me or because I’m different from them.

Then, there’s the issue of plain, deliberate bad manners. I do not wish to watch anyone grab his or her genitalia, whatever their reason. Pants dragging the ground, the crotch of which parallels the wearers’ knees is UGLY, as are baseball caps on back- or sidewards. Additionally, one should wear a size XXXXL shirt only if he (or she) weighs 350-400 pounds.

Which brings us to your question: Is it possible for sound to be bad? Sound, like beauty, is in the ear of the beholder. That is to say, it depends upon what ‘baggage’ you carry. It doesn’t mean that Bieber OR rappers are bad persons; it means, perhaps, that they push our buttons.
